Trabzon city, its coastal districts, and its mountain communities all use the same national time. No adjustment is needed when travelling elsewhere in Turkey because the country maintains one civil time zone.

Trabzon’s main urban centres

Ortahisar contains the historic and administrative core of Trabzon city. Akçaabat is a major coastal district immediately west of the central area. Yomra lies east of the city and forms part of the broader urban corridor.

Vakfıkebir, Beşikdüzü, Sürmene, and Maçka are other notable district centres. Population comparisons should distinguish between central municipalities, complete districts, and the continuous coastal built-up area.

Sunrise between the coast and mountains

Trabzon faces north toward the Black Sea, with steep terrain rising inland. The province’s sunrise time changes daily, becoming earlier toward summer and later toward winter. Longer summer evenings and shorter winter days complete the seasonal pattern.

An open sea horizon may allow a clear view of dawn, depending on the Sun’s seasonal direction and the observer’s position. Inland, mountains and deep valleys can delay direct sunlight well beyond the calculated astronomical sunrise. Cloud and mist affect visibility without altering the calculation.

Ortahisar, Of, Akçaabat, and the highland districts do not have precisely identical sunrise times. Their east-west positions and horizons differ. A province-level time is suitable for orientation, but exact planning requires the selected locality and date.

Before an early mountain departure, consider civil twilight as well as sunrise. The sky brightens before the solar disc appears, yet shaded valleys may remain dim for longer.
