Tak, Thailand
Tak follows Indochina Time, UTC+7, in every month of the year. No daylight saving change occurs. Mountainous terrain and the province’s broad east-to-west extent mean the Sun may become visible at different moments even though every district shares one clock.

Current time in Tak, Thailand
Thailand maintains a single civil time zone, and Tak is part of it. A watch showing the correct time in Bangkok will also be correct in Tak town, Mae Sot, Umphang, Mae Ramat, and the province’s other districts.
Myanmar lies directly west of Tak and uses a different standard time. Travellers crossing the international border must therefore account for a half-hour difference as well as checking current border rules and operating hours.
Tak’s mountain roads already provide enough turns; at least the Thai side keeps the clock setting straight. For remote travel, save the correct local time before losing a network signal. Automatic devices are convenient, but a border crossing can trigger a time-zone update that affects alarms, tickets, and appointments.
Tak’s principal population centres
Tak Province stretches from the Ping River basin westward through mountainous country to the Myanmar frontier. Tak town, in the eastern part of the province, is the administrative capital and an established stop on the north-south route through western Thailand.
Mae Sot is the largest and most economically prominent urban centre in the province. It is a major border-trade city and a gateway between Thailand’s interior and the frontier. Its urban role differs from that of quieter Tak town, although both use UTC+7.
Mae Ramat lies north of Mae Sot, while Phop Phra and Umphang serve extensive areas farther south. Ban Tak, north of the capital, is another district centre. Settlement rankings vary according to whether municipalities, districts, or built-up areas are being compared.

Mountains, horizons, and sunrise
Published sunrise time assumes a standard astronomical horizon. Much of Tak is rugged, so a ridge can block direct sunlight well after the calculated event. A high viewpoint may see the Sun sooner than a valley nearby, even though the locations share nearly the same coordinates and clock time.
Longitude matters as well. Western districts are farther from Thailand’s eastern side, so their solar timing is not identical to that of Tak town. For an exact daily result, select the nearest locality rather than relying on a general provincial value.
Civil dawn is useful for estimating when outdoor visibility begins, but weather can alter practical light levels. Fog, dense cloud, forest cover, and steep terrain may delay useful illumination. Anyone planning a hike or a long rural drive should combine daylight information with route, weather, and local safety advice.
Questions and answers
- Does Tak have the same time as Bangkok?
- Yes. Both remain on UTC+7 throughout the year.
- Is Myanmar on the same time as Tak?
- No. Myanmar’s standard time is half an hour behind Thailand’s.
- Why might sunrise seem late in a Tak valley?
- Mountains can conceal the Sun after it has risen above the astronomical horizon.
