Current time in Taipei, Taiwan
The displayed Taipei time is also the national civil time used across Taiwan. A journey from Taipei to New Taipei, Keelung, Taoyuan, or any other domestic destination requires no time-zone adjustment.
“Taipei” can refer specifically to Taipei City or more broadly to the metropolitan area. The distinction matters for addresses and sunrise coordinates, but not for clocks. Both Taipei City and neighbouring New Taipei City use UTC+8. In Taipei, the metro map may test your bearings; the time zone kindly does not.
Taipei’s time zone
Taipei is eight hours ahead of Coordinated Universal Time. Taiwan does not currently observe daylight saving time, so the local offset remains UTC+8 in every month. When arranging an overseas meeting, remember that a foreign city may change its clocks. The time difference can shift even though Taipei time stays fixed. Calendar software usually resolves this when the correct named zones are selected.
Local offset: UTC+8 Seasonal clock change: none currently Difference from New Taipei City: zero hours Difference from the rest of Taiwan: zero hours
Largest nearby cities and districts
Taipei City is Taiwan’s capital and the core of a larger urban region. New Taipei City surrounds it on several sides, while Keelung lies to the northeast and Taoyuan to the southwest. Together, these places form closely connected patterns of commuting and travel.
Within Taipei City, administrative districts such as Zhongzheng, Xinyi, Daan, Shilin, Beitou, and Neihu help identify the precise location. They are districts rather than separate cities, and all keep the same clock.
Use “Taipei City” when the city boundary matters. Use “New Taipei City” for destinations outside that boundary. Add the district and full address for travel-time planning.
Sunrise in the Taipei basin
Sunrise changes through the year as daylight grows longer or shorter. A date-specific listing is therefore more useful than a fixed annual answer. Sunset varies as well, changing the available hours of natural light.
Taipei’s basin setting and surrounding hills can affect visible sunrise. The astronomical time assumes a standard horizon, while a ridge or tall building may hide the Sun for additional minutes from a particular viewpoint. Cloud cover changes visibility but not the calculated solar event.
For routine planning, a Taipei City sunrise value is sufficient. Photographers, hikers, and travellers heading toward the northern coast or mountain areas should use coordinates for their actual destination. Twilight can be more useful than sunrise when the practical question is whether there will be enough outdoor light.
