Balearic Islands, Spain
The Balearic Islands use Central European Time in winter and Central European Summer Time during daylight saving. Mallorca, Menorca, Ibiza and Formentera share the same official clock, while sunrise differs from island to island and by season.

Current time in Balearic Islands, Spain
The archipelago follows the same time-zone rules as mainland Spain. Standard time is UTC+1, and summer time is UTC+2. A clock set to Palma normally handles these seasonal changes automatically when its time-zone data is current.
No adjustment is needed when travelling between the four main inhabited islands. Flights and ferries publish departures and arrivals in the shared local time. A journey to the Canary Islands is different and requires attention to the time-zone change.
The ferry may cross plenty of water, but between Mallorca and Ibiza it crosses no time-zone boundary.
Time in Palma and the other islands
Palma, on Mallorca, is the capital of the autonomous community and its primary time reference. Ibiza Town is the principal city of Ibiza, Mahón and Ciutadella are major centres on Menorca, and Sant Francesc Xavier is the administrative centre of Formentera.
Palma represents Mallorca and the region as a whole. Ibiza Town is a convenient reference for Ibiza. Mahón provides an eastern Menorca reference. Ciutadella lies on Menorca’s western side. Sant Francesc Xavier is useful for Formentera.
All display the same civil hour. Their east-west positions nevertheless produce different sunrise and sunset calculations. Menorca generally encounters solar events earlier by the clock than islands farther west, but the exact time must be checked for the date and town.
Finding the right island sunrise
A sunrise value for Palma should not be used as an exact substitute for Mahón or Ibiza Town. The difference may matter when arranging a boat departure, a coastal walk or dawn photography. Select the correct island and, where possible, the nearest municipality.
The horizon is especially important on an island. An open sea view can closely resemble the standard horizon used in calculations, while a headland, mountain or urban waterfront can delay direct visibility. Atmospheric haze and cloud affect what is seen without changing the formal sunrise time.
Choose the island and nearest settlement. Confirm the calendar date. Check whether CET or CEST applies. Allow time before sunrise for twilight and preparation.
Travel and international scheduling
Tickets should always be read in local time unless the operator explicitly states otherwise. Because all Balearic ports and airports share one zone, an itinerary between islands does not conceal an internal clock change.
For international calls, give the city, island and date. “Palma time” allows a calendar to apply daylight saving rules, whereas a permanently stated UTC offset can become wrong after a seasonal transition.
The Balearic Islands and mainland Spain change clocks together. Travellers connecting through Barcelona, Valencia or Madrid keep the same hour. Connections involving countries with different seasonal rules deserve a fresh conversion for the travel date.
Questions and answers
- Are Ibiza and Mallorca in the same time zone?

- Do the Balearic Islands observe daylight saving time?
- Yes. They switch between CET and CEST under Spain’s rules.
- Is Balearic time the same as Canary Islands time?
- No. The Canary Islands use a different time zone.
