Gyeonggi-do, South Korea
Gyeonggi-do uses Korea Standard Time, UTC+9, all year. The province’s many cities share the national clock, although sunrise is not perfectly simultaneous across its broad area and varies with season, longitude, terrain, and the local skyline.

Current time in Gyeonggi-do, South Korea
Clocks throughout Gyeonggi-do remain nine hours ahead of Coordinated Universal Time. South Korea does not currently observe daylight saving time, so there is no seasonal clock change within the province.
Seoul and Incheon are separate metropolitan jurisdictions enclosed by or adjoining Gyeonggi-do, but they use the same official time. Commuters crossing those administrative boundaries do not enter another time zone.
In the Seoul Capital Area, the clocks agree completely; the traffic has declined to make a similar promise.
Major cities surrounding Seoul
Gyeonggi-do is highly urbanised and contains numerous large municipal centres. Suwon is the provincial capital. Other cities form interconnected residential, business, industrial, and transport areas around Seoul and Incheon.
Prominent cities include: Suwon, the seat of the provincial government. Goyang, northwest of Seoul. Yongin, south of Seoul and east of Suwon. Seongnam, directly southeast of Seoul. Bucheon, between Seoul and Incheon.
Ansan, a southwestern industrial city near the coast. Additional important centres include Anyang, Hwaseong, Namyangju, Pyeongtaek, Uijeongbu, and Gwangju-si. This last municipality is not the same place as Gwangju Metropolitan City in southwestern South Korea.
Sunrise across a large province
Eastern Gyeonggi locations generally reach sunrise slightly before western coastal areas on the same day. Northern and southern positions also differ, particularly in how daylight length changes by season. One province-wide value is therefore less precise than a city-specific calculation.
The practical view can vary even within a city. Apartment towers, hills, and mountains alter the visible horizon, while haze or cloud controls whether the sun can actually be seen. Astronomical sunrise remains a useful common reference, but it does not describe every street’s first direct light.
Choose the municipality rather than relying on a provincial midpoint. Verify the date and local UTC+9 setting. Consult dawn time for commuting or outdoor work before sunrise. Allow for terrain when visiting mountain viewpoints.
Check transport duration independently of daylight conditions. Summer produces earlier mornings and longer daylight; winter produces later mornings and shorter daylight. The clock itself remains unchanged throughout that cycle.
Questions and answers
- Is Gyeonggi-do in the same time zone as Seoul?
- Yes. Both use Korea Standard Time, UTC+9.
- Is Seoul part of Gyeonggi-do?
- No. Seoul is a separate special city, although Gyeonggi-do surrounds much of it.
- Should one sunrise time be used for the whole province?
- A city-specific value is better because the province covers many locations with different longitudes and horizons.
