Current time in Dagestan, Russia
Every community in Dagestan uses the same official time. A clock in Makhachkala therefore agrees with clocks in Derbent, Khasavyurt, Kaspiysk, and the republic’s mountain settlements. Dagestan shares its time with Moscow and many other regions of European Russia. When arranging a call within that time zone, no conversion is necessary. For someone working in UTC, the local time is found by adding three hours.
Russia does not currently apply daylight saving time in Dagestan. The UTC offset consequently stays unchanged when seasons change. Phones and computers should normally select the regional time automatically, but a manually configured device can be set to Moscow Time.
In Dagestan, the road into the mountains may alter your schedule; crossing the republic will not alter your clock.
Largest cities and local time
Makhachkala, the capital and largest city, is the usual reference point for time in Dagestan. Its clocks represent the whole republic, including the Caspian coast and inland districts. Other large or prominent urban centres include:
Khasavyurt, in the northern part of the republic Derbent, on the Caspian coast Kaspiysk, immediately southeast of Makhachkala Buynaksk, inland from the coastal plain Izberbash, another coastal city There is no time-zone boundary between these cities. Train departures, business hours, broadcasts, and appointments stated in local time all use UTC+3. The same rule applies in rural districts, even where difficult terrain makes journeys between neighbouring places longer than a map might suggest.
Sunrise and daylight in Dagestan
Sunrise is not simultaneous across Dagestan, despite the common civil time. Eastern coastal places generally see the Sun before locations farther west, while mountains can delay its first visible appearance behind a ridge. Elevation and the local horizon therefore matter as well as longitude.
Daylight also changes through the year. Summer brings earlier sunrises and later sunsets than winter. Because clocks do not move seasonally, those changes come from the Sun’s annual pattern rather than daylight saving time.
For a useful sunrise time, choose the particular city or settlement and the intended date. A value calculated for Makhachkala is a reasonable reference for the capital but should not be treated as an exact observation for a mountain village or another part of the republic.
Confirm that the displayed location is in Dagestan. Check that the date is correct. Use Moscow Time or UTC+3 for the result. Allow for hills, buildings, and mountains if the visible sunrise matters.
