Current time in Southeastern Governorate, Oman
The region follows Oman’s fixed national time throughout the year. UTC+4 remains valid on every date, and no hour is skipped or repeated because of seasonal clock adjustments. Local schedules can therefore be compared directly with those in Muscat.
Online directories may call the area Southeastern Governorate, South Al Sharqiyah or Ash Sharqiyah South. The terminology varies, but the time-zone rule does not. Check the geographic result when a search service lists both northern and southern Sharqiyah.
Time zone: Gulf Standard Time UTC offset: four hours ahead Seasonal clock change: none Common official English name: Ash Sharqiyah South Difference from northern Oman: zero hours Sharqiyah has more than one English spelling, which is still more variety than its clocks permit.
Sur and the region’s main centres
Sur is the administrative centre and best-known city of Ash Sharqiyah South. The governorate also includes Al Kamil wa Al Wafi, Jalan Bani Bu Hassan, Jalan Bani Bu Ali and Masirah. Their official local time is identical.
Sur is the natural reference for city services and much of the mainland coast. The Jalan centres are useful for inland planning, while Masirah should be selected for island-specific conditions. Travelling by road between the mainland towns requires no time adjustment, and reaching Masirah does not create one either.
Spellings such as Jalan, Ja’alan and Jaalan can refer to the same place names in different English systems. Confirm the full name, governorate and country when selecting a location in an application.
Coastal sunrise and Masirah Island
The southeastern coast has broad marine horizons in many places, but the exact sunrise still depends on date and coordinates. Masirah Island and mainland Sur occupy different positions, so their calculated times can differ slightly despite sharing UTC+4.
Clouds can conceal the sun, and nearby terrain or buildings can delay its first appearance. Neither effect changes the official published calculation. Users planning fishing, photography or an early departure should distinguish twilight, sunrise and actual visibility.
Choose Sur, Masirah or the closest mainland town. Enter the intended date. Verify Gulf Standard Time or UTC+4. Review weather separately if seeing the sun matters.
Questions and answers
- Is Southeastern Governorate on the same time as Sur?
- Yes. Sur and the entire governorate use UTC+4.
- Does Masirah Island have its own time zone?
- No. The island follows Oman’s national Gulf Standard Time.
- Why might two coastal locations have different sunrise times?
- Their coordinates differ, so the sun reaches each local horizon at a slightly different calculated moment.
