Current time in Yangon, Myanmar
Yangon Region follows Myanmar Time, UTC+6:30. It does not use daylight saving time, so the same offset applies every day of the year in Yangon city, Thanlyin, Twante, and surrounding townships. Yangon is Myanmar’s largest urban centre and a common reference for the country’s local time. The clock here matches Nay Pyi Taw, Mandalay, and every other Myanmar region. Domestic travel never introduces a time-zone change.
For remote meetings, Yangon’s half-hour offset matters more than its familiar place on a map. Convert from UTC by adding six hours and thirty minutes, then verify whether the calculation crosses midnight. Calendar software is preferable when several participants use different zones.
Yangon traffic can make five kilometres feel like a time zone, but officially it is not one.
The regional metropolis and nearby towns
Yangon city dominates the region’s population, economy, and transport network. Its built-up area extends across numerous townships, while separate towns and semi-rural communities occupy the wider region. All use a single clock.
Yangon is the former national capital and the region’s main metropolis. Thanlyin lies across the Bago River from central Yangon. Twante is west of the main urban area. Hmawbi is north of central Yangon.
Thongwa serves the region’s southeastern side. A district, township, postal address, or airport label may identify different parts of the metropolitan area, but none creates a separate time standard. Flight and railway schedules shown locally are normally understood in Myanmar Time; international itineraries should still be checked for the convention stated by the operator.
Planning around sunrise in Yangon
Yangon’s sunrise time moves gradually with the seasons. A page displaying today’s value should not be used as a permanent timetable, and a value saved months earlier may no longer fit an early-morning plan.
Eastern parts of the region can see astronomical sunrise slightly before western parts, although the difference within ordinary city travel is modest. High-rise buildings, trees, haze, monsoon cloud, and the observer’s horizon often matter more to the visible experience than the geographic difference between nearby townships.
First light begins before sunrise. That distinction helps runners, photographers, market visitors, and commuters deciding when outdoor visibility will improve. Sunset and twilight should be obtained separately for the same date, because daylight length is not fixed across the year.

- Yes. Both cities observe Myanmar Time at UTC+6:30.
- Does Yangon ever move its clocks forward?
- No. Yangon does not observe daylight saving time.
- Which location should be used for a sunrise check?
- Use Yangon city for a general metropolitan value or the exact township coordinates when greater precision is needed.
