Current time in Sagaing Region, Myanmar
Sagaing Region keeps Myanmar Time, UTC+6:30, all year. There is no daylight saving clock change, so Monywa, Sagaing, Kale, Shwebo, and the region’s other communities remain on one stable offset. The region extends across a large part of northwestern Myanmar, yet its breadth does not divide it into multiple time zones. Whether a journey begins beside the Ayeyarwady or continues toward the Indian border, the displayed civil time stays the same.
Myanmar’s half-hour zone requires care when comparing Sagaing with countries using whole-hour offsets. Calendar dates also matter: an evening in Sagaing can coincide with an earlier hour elsewhere, while a morning conversation may fall on the previous date for someone far to the west.
Sagaing is large enough for a long journey, but fortunately not large enough to require resetting the dashboard clock.
Regional centres from south to north
Monywa is the administrative capital of Sagaing Region. The city of Sagaing, despite sharing the region’s name, is a separate major centre near Mandalay. Farther north and west, several towns serve extensive surrounding districts.
Monywa is the regional capital and a central commercial hub. Sagaing stands on the Ayeyarwady and gives the region its name. Shwebo is an important city north of Mandalay. Kale, also written Kalay, serves communities in the northwest.
Tamu is near Myanmar’s border with India. These places are useful reference points for geography and scheduling. They do not need separate clock listings because the national time standard covers all of them. Differences in spelling, especially transliterations such as Kale and Kalay, likewise do not indicate different locations or time rules.
Sunrise across a long region
A single sunrise time cannot precisely describe the whole of Sagaing Region. Northern and southern locations differ in latitude, while eastern and western locations differ in longitude. Both dimensions affect the daily calculation, and seasonal changes alter daylight duration.
The eastern edge generally reaches sunrise before places farther west when comparing the same date under similar horizon conditions. Local terrain complicates direct observation: hills may conceal the Sun after its calculated rising time, while an open plain or river view can provide a clearer horizon.
Choose a date-specific value for the nearest city when planning a departure, ceremony, photograph, or outdoor shift. Dawn is not identical to sunrise. The sky begins brightening before the Sun’s upper edge appears, and the amount of usable light depends on cloud and the surrounding landscape.
Questions and answers
