Local clocks in Chiapas are set to Central Standard Time. The state’s fixed offset is UTC−6, meaning it is six hours behind Coordinated Universal Time. Near midnight, a UTC conversion may also require changing the calendar date.

Chiapas does not move between standard and daylight time. However, calls with cities elsewhere can acquire a different time gap when those cities alter their clocks. Largest cities and varied sunrise conditions

Tuxtla Gutiérrez is the state capital and its principal administrative centre. Tapachula and San Cristóbal de las Casas are other major cities. Comitán de Domínguez, Palenque and Chiapa de Corzo are also prominent destinations and regional centres.

Chiapas contains coast, valleys, plateaus, mountains and lowland areas. These settings share one clock but not one visible sunrise. An astronomical listing uses coordinates and date, while hills and ridges can postpone the observer’s first direct view of the sun.

Altitude does not create a new time zone. It can, however, change the horizon and local conditions at dawn. A sunrise time for Tuxtla Gutiérrez should therefore not be treated as an exact observation time for San Cristóbal de las Casas, Tapachula or Palenque.

The sun’s apparent path changes through the year, moving the times of daylight events even though the state’s civil offset stays fixed. For an early excursion, obtain a date-specific value, review dawn or twilight if usable light matters, and account for terrain and cloud cover.
