The Latvian spelling is Tērvete. The name can refer to a village, a parish, or the former Tērvete Municipality. That municipality was incorporated into Dobele Municipality, but the administrative change did not affect local time.

Settlements of the former Tervete Municipality

The former municipality combined Tērvete, Augstkalne, and Bukaiši parishes, with its administration based at Zelmeņi. It had no officially designated city or town. Its population was distributed among villages and rural territory, so a list of “largest cities” would use the wrong category.

The principal settlements commonly associated with the area are: Tērvete, the village and parish namesake; Kroņauce, one of the larger local villages; Zelmeņi, the former municipal administrative centre;

Augstkalne, the centre of Augstkalne Parish; Bukaiši, the centre of Bukaiši Parish. All now lie within the broader Dobele Municipality. Dobele is the current municipal centre, but it is outside the former Tērvete municipal boundary. This difference helps explain why older pages and newer public records may classify the same address differently.
