Current time in Hormozgan, Iran
One time zone covers the entire province, including its islands. A ferry or flight between Bandar Abbas, Qeshm and Kish does not cross a civil time boundary. The UTC offset remains plus three hours and thirty minutes under Iran’s current year-round standard-time arrangement. Visitors arriving from a daylight-saving region should rely on the difference for the travel date, not on a conversion remembered from another season.
For remote work, storing events in UTC and displaying them in Hormozgan time avoids ambiguity. Human-readable invitations should still name the province or city because “local time” means different things to different recipients. An island ferry may alter your timetable; reaching the island will not alter your watch.
Major coastal and island centres
Bandar Abbas is the provincial capital and its principal urban reference. Hormozgan also includes important mainland ports and island settlements spread across a considerable distance. Bandar Abbas stands on the Strait of Hormuz and serves as the administrative centre.
Minab is a major mainland city east of the capital. Qeshm is the principal city on Qeshm Island. Bandar Lengeh is a historic port west of Bandar Abbas. Kish is a prominent settlement and destination on Kish Island.
All use IRST. The province’s wide geographic spread means that choosing the correct city remains important for sunrise, even though it is unnecessary for ordinary clock time.
Sunrise along the islands and mainland
Eastern Hormozgan generally reaches sunrise before its western locations when measured by the shared clock. The exact difference depends on the coordinates and date, so a Bandar Abbas listing should not substitute for a precise Kish calculation.
Over water, the horizon may appear open, but haze, cloud and the observer’s elevation influence visibility. Astronomical sunrise remains a coordinate-based event whether or not the sun can be seen through local conditions.
Daylight duration changes during the year, though less dramatically than at much higher latitudes. Dawn precedes sunrise, and twilight follows sunset; marine and outdoor plans may need those broader light intervals.
Planning across the Gulf
Verify the time zone of the port or country at the other end of a journey. Retain the thirty-minute portion when comparing Hormozgan with UTC. Use island-specific coordinates for solar events. Distinguish scheduled departure time from boarding or check-in time.
Neighbouring places across the water may use different official offsets despite their geographic proximity. Distance on a map is therefore not a safe basis for time conversion.
Questions and answers
- Is the time different on Qeshm Island?
- No. Qeshm follows the same UTC+3:30 standard as mainland Hormozgan.
- Does Kish change its clocks during the year?
- No local seasonal change is currently used.
- Which sunrise location should a traveller choose?
- Select the specific island, port or mainland city closest to the observation point.
