Pontianak and every other community in West Kalimantan use the same official time. The rule covers coastal settlements, inland regencies, and places near Indonesia’s border with Malaysia. WIB runs seven hours ahead of UTC. It is the time used in Jakarta, so schedules between Pontianak and the national capital need no time-zone conversion. Central Indonesian locations such as Bali are one hour ahead, while eastern Indonesian locations are two hours ahead.

West Kalimantan never switches to a summer schedule. Its offset from UTC therefore stays fixed, although the time difference from a foreign city can change if that city observes daylight saving time. The Equator crosses the province, but fortunately it does not divide the clocks.

Pontianak, Singkawang, and regional centers

Pontianak is closely associated with the Equator, and the province extends both north and south of it. Day and night remain comparatively even in length, but sunrise is not fixed at one minute throughout the year.

Longitude makes a practical difference across this broad province. Sunrise in an eastern inland location can occur earlier by the clock than on the western coast. Hills, forest, buildings, haze, and cloud can change the first moment when sunlight is visible from the ground.

Use a location-specific forecast or solar calculation for fishing, river travel, fieldwork, or photography. A sunrise value for Pontianak should not be treated as exact for Putussibau or Ketapang. The time-zone label remains WIB in every case; only the solar event varies with place and date.
