The same time applies across West Java, from the Jakarta metropolitan fringe to Bandung and the province’s southern coast. Bandung, Bekasi, Bogor, Depok, Cirebon, and smaller communities all use WIB. WIB is seven hours ahead of Coordinated Universal Time. Converting from UTC requires adding seven hours. West Java shares its time with Jakarta and much of Sumatra, but it is one hour behind Bali and two hours behind the easternmost Indonesian provinces.

There is no seasonal clock change to remember. A meeting arranged months in advance retains the same relationship to UTC, although people joining from countries with daylight saving time may see their own time difference change. West Java keeps one clock; the traffic decides how long it takes to reach it.

West Java contains several of Indonesia’s largest and busiest urban areas. Some form part of the wider Jakarta metropolitan region, while Bandung anchors a large inland metropolitan area of its own. Despite their different commuting patterns and elevations, their clocks agree.

A train ticket, hotel check-in, or appointment stated in local time needs no conversion when traveling between these cities. The same applies to places such as Sukabumi, Tasikmalaya, Banjar, and regency towns throughout the province.

Sunrise across West Java

Sunrise does not occur at exactly the same clock time everywhere in West Java. Cirebon lies farther east than cities around Bekasi and Depok, so the Sun generally reaches its horizon earlier. Elevation and surrounding terrain also influence when sunlight is actually seen.

Bandung sits in a mountain basin, Bogor has nearby high ground, and the southern part of the province includes rugged terrain. A calculated sunrise describes when the Sun crosses an ideal horizon; hills, buildings, cloud, and local geography may delay visible sunlight.

For prayer, photography, hiking, or an early departure, select the individual city and date when checking sunrise. Day length changes through the year, though the variation is moderate compared with regions far from the equator. None of these solar changes alters the legal time zone.
