Every community in Southwest Papua follows the same civil time. Sorong, Aimas, Teminabuan, Waisai, and settlements across the Raja Ampat islands therefore share one clock, even though travel between them may involve long road journeys or boat crossings.

Sunrise, daylight, and planning

Southwest Papua lies close to the equator, so daylight duration changes less dramatically through the year than it does in high-latitude countries. Sunrise and sunset still vary by date and exact position, however. An island east or west of Sorong can see the Sun at a noticeably different clock time.

For an accurate sunrise, use the specific town or island rather than a province-wide estimate. This matters in Raja Ampat, where locations are spread across a broad maritime area. Weather, mountains, and the local horizon can also affect when direct sunlight becomes visible, even though the calculated sunrise has already occurred.
