The time is identical to Jakarta, Central Java, and Yogyakarta. Bali, immediately across the Bali Strait from eastern Java, uses WITA and is one hour ahead. Travellers crossing by air or ferry should account for that boundary.

Mountains and volcanoes strongly influence the visible horizon in many parts of the province. A calculated sunrise may occur while the solar disc remains concealed behind high ground. On an open coast, the observed event may more closely match the standard calculation.
