A single current-time value applies across Normandy, from the lower Seine to the Cotentin Peninsula and Mont Saint-Michel area. There is no internal time-zone boundary between Upper and Lower Norman localities or between inland and coastal districts.

Normandy lies northwest of Paris and faces the English Channel. Its position is important for sunrise and international travel, but not for its French civil clock. Local schedules use the same time standard as Paris. Normandy’s tides deserve a table of their own; its clocks do not.

During standard time, Normandy observes Central European Time, abbreviated CET, one hour ahead of Coordinated Universal Time. During daylight saving, it observes Central European Summer Time, abbreviated CEST, two hours ahead of Coordinated Universal Time.

The region changes its clocks alongside the rest of metropolitan France. They move forward in spring and return in autumn. Digital devices set to Europe/Paris normally make the adjustment without manual intervention.

That last distinction is vital near the coast. Clock time, sunrise, and tides are related only as scheduling information; one cannot be inferred reliably from either of the others.

Cities, coastline, and the morning Sun

Rouen is Normandy’s regional capital. Le Havre and Caen are major urban centres, while Cherbourg-en-Cotentin, Évreux, Dieppe, and Alençon serve other parts of the region. Each city uses precisely the same official time.

Sunrise varies between them. The Cotentin Peninsula reaches farther west than Rouen, and the region also spans north-south differences. Consequently, one city’s sunrise time is not an exact regional value, even when every clock displays the same hour.

For a beach visit, ferry departure, memorial visit, farm task, or photograph, select the nearest locality and the correct date. A sea horizon may offer an unobstructed view in one direction, while cliffs, hills, trees, buildings, fog, or cloud can affect actual visibility.

Summer days are longer than winter days, and twilight can extend usable light beyond the sunrise and sunset instants. Anyone planning around daylight should decide whether they need astronomical sunrise, visible sunlight, or simply enough light for an activity.
