The current local time for Corsica is valid across the island. Crossing from Ajaccio to Bastia or travelling into the mountainous interior does not involve a time change, and ferry or flight schedules use the same local convention as metropolitan France.

Corsica is an island in the Mediterranean, but insularity does not give it a separate time zone. Its civil time is aligned with France. Nearby countries may also show the same clock at many times of year, though each country’s rules should be checked independently for international planning. On a mountain road, the journey may change dramatically; the clock does not.

Corsica’s official time zone

In the standard-time season, Corsica uses Central European Time, known as CET, which is one hour ahead of Coordinated Universal Time. During daylight saving it changes to Central European Summer Time, or CEST, two hours ahead of Coordinated Universal Time.

The island follows the same spring and autumn clock transitions as mainland France. Devices configured for Europe/Paris generally update automatically. Manually selecting a permanent UTC offset can create an error after a seasonal transition.

Ajaccio and Bastia always share the same civil time. The island uses CET during standard time. The summer designation is CEST. Europe/Paris is the practical database zone for digital calendars. When arranging a ferry connection or airport transfer near a clock-change night, rely on the operator’s dated schedule. The time zone explains the clock, but it does not resolve how a particular company labels an overnight departure.

Cities, mountains, and sunrise

Ajaccio is Corsica’s capital, and Bastia is another principal city. Porto-Vecchio, Corte, Calvi, and Sartène are well-known centres serving different parts of the island. Their clocks agree, but their surroundings make daylight feel different.

Sunrise calculations depend on latitude, longitude, and date. Eastern coastal locations can see sunrise earlier by the clock than places on the western side. Corsica’s rugged mountains add a practical complication: a ridge may hide the Sun after the calculated horizon-based sunrise.

For boating, hiking, driving, or photography, choose the exact town or coordinates. A value calculated for Ajaccio is not the precise sunrise time for Bastia, and neither necessarily predicts when direct sunlight reaches a mountain valley.

Daylight lasts longer in summer and less long in winter. Twilight also provides some usable natural light before sunrise and after sunset, but its usefulness depends on weather, terrain, and the activity being planned.
