Current time in Capital Region, Denmark

The clock shown for the Capital Region follows Denmark’s national seasonal schedule. It advances during the daylight-saving part of the year and returns to standard time afterward. Devices using the Europe/Copenhagen identifier normally apply those transitions automatically.

The region includes Copenhagen and surrounding municipalities, communities in northern Zealand, and the island of Bornholm. All use the same official clock. Bornholm’s easterly position, however, gives it noticeably earlier solar events than places farther west.

Copenhagen, regional cities and islands

Copenhagen is Denmark’s capital and the region’s largest city. The continuous urban area extends across municipal boundaries, so city labels and administrative borders do not always describe the same footprint. Frederiksberg is an independent municipality enclosed by Copenhagen Municipality, while still forming part of the wider capital city.

Copenhagen is the main population, transport and time reference. Frederiksberg is administratively separate but embedded in the capital area. Helsingør and Hillerød are important centres in northern Zealand.

Rønne is the principal town on Bornholm. All of them follow Europe/Copenhagen time. For an appointment, selecting Copenhagen is enough to establish the official time anywhere in the region. For daylight planning, select the actual town, especially when comparing Bornholm with the western side of the region.

Seasonal clocks and sunrise

Sunrise in the Capital Region changes substantially over the year because Denmark lies well north of the equator. Summer mornings bring much earlier light and longer days; winter mornings are later and daylight is shorter. The daylight-saving clock shift also changes the displayed hour attached to sunrise.

A sunrise table uses a defined coordinate and a clear horizon. Dense buildings, coastal weather and local terrain affect what an observer sees. Civil twilight begins before sunrise and can provide useful outdoor light, but it is a separate event.
