Use the specific locality when looking up sunrise. A single official zone makes administrative time consistent, but it cannot make solar events simultaneous across such a broad region. Longitude, latitude, elevation, and terrain distinguish one locality from another.
High elevation and sunrise
Sunrise calculations depend primarily on date and position. Tibet’s extensive east-to-west span means a Lhasa result should not be copied to Ngari or Chamdo. Their clocks agree, but the Sun reaches their horizons at different moments.
Elevation and mountain horizons complicate what an observer actually sees. A calculated sunrise represents an astronomical event under standard assumptions. A ridge may block direct sunlight well after that moment, while a high, unobstructed viewpoint may have a very different visual experience from a nearby valley.
Daylight duration changes through the year, shifting sunrise and sunset on the fixed UTC+8 clock. Twilight begins before sunrise and can provide usable light even when surrounding peaks still hide the Sun.
Anyone planning travel, photography, or an early departure should check the exact settlement and date. Weather and the direction of the local horizon remain important, particularly where terrain sharply limits the view.
