Current time in Amazonas, Brazil
Unlike many Brazilian states, Amazonas cannot be represented accurately by one statewide clock. Manaus follows Amazon Time at UTC−04:00, four hours behind UTC. The western part of the state, including Tabatinga, follows Acre Time at UTC−05:00.
The one-hour difference matters for flights, river transport, remote meetings, and broadcasts. When it is noon in Manaus, it is 11:00 a.m. in Tabatinga. Brazil does not currently apply seasonal clock changes, but the internal time-zone boundary still remains. Amazonas is large enough that “local time” needs a locality attached to it.
Manaus, major cities, and the western zone
Manaus, the state capital and dominant urban center, uses UTC−04:00. Parintins, Itacoatiara, Manacapuru, Coari, Tefé, and Maués use the same offset. These places form part of the broad central and eastern area governed by the Manaus clock.
In the far west, Tabatinga, Benjamin Constant, Atalaia do Norte, Eirunepé, and nearby municipalities use UTC−05:00. Because administrative boundaries define civil time, longitude alone should not be used to guess the correct clock for an address.
Manaus: UTC−04:00 Parintins: UTC−04:00 Itacoatiara: UTC−04:00 Tefé: UTC−04:00 Tabatinga: UTC−05:00 For digital calendars, select the named zone associated with the municipality. Manaus and western Amazonas should not be entered as though they were interchangeable. Transport tickets normally show local departure and arrival times, so an itinerary crossing the zone boundary may display a clock difference in addition to its actual duration.
Sunrise across an immense state
Amazonas extends across a vast distance from east to west. Sunrise can therefore occur at substantially different clock times in Manaus and far-western municipalities. The time-zone boundary offsets part of that geographical difference, but it does not make solar conditions uniform.
Latitude, season, and longitude all influence sunrise and sunset. Forest cover adds a practical distinction: astronomical sunrise occurs when the Sun reaches the horizon, while the first direct light visible on the ground may come later beneath trees or behind terrain and buildings.
River travel often makes dawn timing important. A daily value for Manaus should not be reused for Tabatinga, Tefé, or Parintins. Consult a timetable calculated for the precise community, then account for weather and the observer’s surroundings.
Questions and answers
- How many time zones does Amazonas have?
- Two: UTC−04:00 across most of the state and UTC−05:00 in its far-western municipalities.
- Do Manaus and Tabatinga show the same time?
- No. Tabatinga is one hour behind Manaus.
- Which time should I use for an Amazonas trip?
- Use the named time zone of each destination and read transport times as local unless the operator states otherwise.
