Current time in Burgenland, Austria
Burgenland’s current time is the same as Vienna’s and the rest of Austria’s. Its offset changes seasonally between CET and CEST. Using an Eisenstadt or Vienna location setting allows calendars and clocks to apply that change automatically.
The state’s position beside Hungary does not create a time-zone boundary: Hungary uses the same central European clock pattern. Cross-border travellers should still confirm appointment dates, particularly when another journey continues into a country governed by different seasonal arrangements. A border may change the language on the road sign without moving the hands of the clock.
A single clock for a long, narrow state
Burgenland stretches along Austria’s eastern edge, but all of it keeps national Austrian time. Standard time is one hour ahead of UTC; summer time is two hours ahead. A fixed offset is adequate for an immediate conversion but is less suitable for an event planned in another season.
Federal-state capital: Eisenstadt. Standard time: CET, or UTC+1. Summer time: CEST, or UTC+2. Seasonal clock changes follow Austria’s national arrangement. Vienna is a compatible time-zone reference for common calendar software.
Eisenstadt provides a practical reference for northern Burgenland. Other important urban centres include Neusiedl am See, Mattersburg, Oberwart and Güssing. None has a separate official zone, so regional travel within Burgenland requires no clock adjustment.
Sunrise from Lake Neusiedl to the south
Shared civil time does not give the whole state one sunrise. Northern and southern Burgenland occupy different latitudes, and small longitude differences affect when solar events fall on the clock. The chosen date creates a much larger seasonal change in daylight length.
Terrain and the visible horizon matter too. Open ground near Lake Neusiedl can offer a different first view of the Sun from a wooded or hilly site farther south. Published sunrise usually describes an astronomical calculation for coordinates, not the instant sunlight reaches every street or hillside.
For an outing, use the nearest town rather than Eisenstadt by default. Pair the location with the exact date and distinguish sunrise from earlier stages of twilight if usable natural light is the real concern.
Questions and answers
- Is Burgenland in the same time zone as Vienna?
- Yes. Both follow CET and change to CEST for summer time.
- Must I change my clock when crossing into Hungary?
- Normally no, because Austria and Hungary use the same central European time pattern.
- Does Eisenstadt’s sunrise apply to southern Burgenland?
- Not precisely. Use a listing for the nearest locality because position and horizon affect the result.
