How it works

Spec’s Wines, Spirits & Finer Foods is a Texas beverage superstore. Location pages commonly print 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Monday through Saturday and Sunday closed. Thanksgiving, Christmas Day, and New Year’s Day appear as closed on those same pages; Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve often keep the ordinary 10-to-9 span when the store lists them. The locator for that address is still the rule. A warehouse-sized Houston store and a smaller city store can still share the Sunday dark day even when their parking lots look nothing alike.

Work meets this board at two hard edges. A 10:00 a.m. open is after a 9:00 a.m. desk start. A 9:00 p.m. close is after most office jobs, which is why the after-work run is the usual in-person visit. Sunday closed is the trap. If you work Saturday and meant to shop Sunday, the store will not open because you finally have a day off. Saturday before 9:00 p.m. is the last package-store chance in a normal week.

Pickup and same-day delivery, where offered, follow their own cutoffs. An app that still shows bottles at 8:50 p.m. may have already stopped pulling. The register at 8:50 p.m. on Saturday is still a walk-in clock if the doors are open; the driver is not.

After work, before Sunday

Put the weekly liquor and wine list on a weeknight or on Saturday. Do not leave it for Sunday morning. People who work hospitality on Friday and Saturday night should shop Thursday, not “when I wake up Sunday.” The closed day is a Texas package-store pattern you can see on Spec’s own store pages. It will not move for a brunch plan.

A 9:00 p.m. close is late enough for a 5:00 p.m. job and late enough to steal the rest of a work night if you turn it into a long wander. Go with a list. The finer-foods aisles will still be there Saturday; your 6:00 a.m. Monday alarm will not wait in the parking lot.

Monday–Saturday: many stores 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.; confirm yours. Sunday: commonly closed. Named holidays: read that store’s holiday block; several major dates are full closes. Worknight: use the evening; do not save the run for Sunday.

Sunday is not a Spec’s shopping day at stores that print Closed. Your day off and their dark day can be the same twenty-four hours. That is the schedule, not a grudge.

Holidays that land on a workweek

When Christmas or New Year’s Day falls on a weekday, you lose a 10-to-9 board you might have used after work. Shop the last open evening before the close. Thanksgiving week has a closed Thursday on the pages that list it; Wednesday after work is then the practical stop, not Friday night if you assumed the grocery pattern. Spec’s is not a grocery. Do not import another chain’s open-holiday list.

If you need beer, wine, and liquor for an office party on a Monday, Saturday is still the safe last stop. A Sunday panic will not open the door. Delivery, where it exists, still has to land on a day the store is filling orders. Check that cutoff while you are still at the desk on Friday, not from the parking lot on Sunday.
