How it works

State Employees’ Credit Union publishes one lobby clock for its North Carolina branches: weekdays 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. ET. That is a teller day, not a 24-hour floor. Saturday and Sunday the building is closed for in-person service. Member Access, the mobile app, voice response, and CashPoints ATMs stay available when the lobby is dark. Member Services Support is listed as a 24/7 phone line for members who cannot wait for a desk.

This board collides with a standard job. If you work 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., the branch opens after you start and closes shortly after you leave. A lunch visit is the usual in-person window. A Friday after work can still catch 5:30 p.m. if you are close; it will not if you commute across town. The credit union already built the other path: app, ATM, and phone. The lobby is for work that still needs a person.

A lobby that shares your workweek

Bring only the errands that actually need a human: a signature, a safe-deposit visit, a cash transaction the ATM will not take, a problem that has already failed in the app. Deposit a paycheck by mobile if that is how you already work. Move money after dinner from the same phone you used at lunch. Standing in a noon line because you did not try the app first is how a 45-minute break becomes a missed meeting.

Arrive before the last half hour if the task is long. A 5:20 p.m. arrival with a stack of papers is a bet that the lobby still has time for you. The posted close is the staff’s end of day, not a suggestion. If your shift ends at 5:30 p.m., you were never going to walk in that day unless the branch is in the same building as your job.

Use the app or ATM for transfers, deposits, and balance work that does not need a teller. Save lobby visits for signatures and exceptions, and put them on a lunch break or a day off. Do not plan Saturday in-person service; the published lobby is weekday only.

On a designated holiday, the same digital tools still run; the desk does not. If your job and the teller share 8:30 to 5:30, the branch is not after-work banking. It is lunch banking, or it is the app after dinner.

Holidays, and what still runs

SECU posts a branch holiday calendar. Closed days have included Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Good Friday, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving and the Friday after, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, and New Year’s Day. The list is dated; read the current year on the credit union’s calendar rather than last year’s weekdays. When a holiday lands on a Monday, you lose the first lobby day of the week. Plan the signature for the Friday before if the document cannot wait.

A closed lobby is not a frozen account. ATMs, Member Access, and the phone line are the after-hours shop floor. If the errand truly needs a person, it needs a weekday that is not on the holiday list. Teachers, state workers, and other members who already share SECU’s weekday clock should not treat the branch as a place they will catch after their own shift. Their shift is the same shape as the lobby.
