How it works

NFM is Nebraska Furniture Mart: large home stores in Omaha, Kansas City, Dallas–Fort Worth, and Des Moines, plus a clearance building in Omaha. It is not a dawn grocery. Omaha, Kansas City, and Dallas–Fort Worth list store and customer-pickup hours as 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday. Des Moines lists a different board: 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday. Phone lines at several stores open at 8 a.m. on Monday through Saturday, which is earlier than the floor. The locator for that building is the clock. A Saturday 10 a.m. in Omaha does not open Des Moines at 10 a.m. on Sunday.

Sleep sits on both edges of that board. An 11 a.m. weekday open is a late-morning store. You can keep an ordinary night and still arrive at the first useful hour. You cannot treat it like a 6 a.m. errand. Sitting in the lot at 9:40 a.m. is sleep you already spent on a door that was never going to move. An 8 p.m. close is the other edge. It is earlier than a late supermarket and late enough to steal a work-night buffer if you start a sofa walk at 7:20 p.m. and still have the drive home.

Pickup follows the store line at these buildings, not the phone line. A call at 8:10 a.m. can place an order. It will not hand you a box before the floor unlocks. Delivery windows are a third clock. A truck on a weekday morning is not the showroom close.

A late-morning floor and a work-night 8 p.m.

Plan NFM after breakfast, not instead of the last hour of sleep. If you already wake for a job, go after work only if the list is short and you can still be home with time to wind down. A mattress, a dining set, and a full appliance walk are Saturday work. Saturday’s earlier open is the one day the chain gives you an extra morning hour at several stores. Use it after a real Friday night, not after a 1 a.m. scroll.

Sunday at Des Moines is the row people skip. That store closes at 6 p.m. and opens at 11 a.m. A remembered 8 p.m. from Kansas City will leave you in a dark lot. Read Sunday as its own line every time you cross a city.

Open that store’s hours page, not a screenshot from another market. Treat 11 a.m. as “after a night’s sleep,” not as a dawn stop. Leave the long list off a work-night 7 p.m. start. Read Sunday separately in Des Moines, where the close is earlier.

The sofa will still be on the floor at 11 a.m. Your work-night sleep will not wait in the parking lot.

Phone, pickup, and a holiday dark

Phone hours can start at 8 a.m. while the doors stay shut until 10 or 11. That split is useful if you only need a person on the line. It is useless if you need to stand on the pickup pad. Customer pickup is listed with the store hours at these locations. Arrive before the floor opens and you wait. Arrive at 7:50 p.m. with a long unload and you are already in the last minutes of the board.

NFM states that stores are generally closed on major holidays. That is a full dark day, not a short evening. Holiday eves can also move. A Labor Day close has been posted as a dated notice, not as the rest of the year. Do not copy a mall’s Thanksgiving night onto this chain, and do not copy this chain’s 8 p.m. onto a grocery. Put the bulky list on a daylight weekday if the household is already short on rest from travel. The showroom will still be there after you have slept. A cart in your head at 7:45 p.m. on a school night is a choice to spend the buffer.
