How it works

Navy Federal Credit Union does not run one national pair of lobby times. The branch locator lists that building. Weekday desks commonly sit in ordinary daytime hours, sometimes with a later Friday. Saturday, where it exists, is often a short morning or early afternoon. Sunday is typically closed for the lobby. On-base branches also follow installation access rules: if you cannot enter the gate, the posted lobby time does not help you.

Sleep is the hidden constraint. A 2 a.m. payday panic is not a lobby problem. It is an app, phone, or ATM problem. Member service by phone is offered around the clock. Online banking does not wait for the door to be unlocked. A cash deposit in the middle of the night belongs in an ATM that accepts deposits, subject to the funds-availability rules on the receipt, not in a dark glass door.

Federal holidays close the branches. The published holiday list includes New Year’s Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Presidents Day, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, Independence Day, Labor Day, Columbus Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day. Some sites also observe a local holiday. A deposit scheduled for a holiday generally waits for the next business day to post. The night before a Monday holiday is a poor time to assume a morning teller.

Night clocks versus lobby clocks

If you work nights and sleep through the weekday lobby, Saturday morning may be your only in-person window, and only if that branch posts one. Do not set an alarm for Sunday banking at a desk. Do set an alarm if you must catch a Saturday close; those hours end early. A notary, a safe-deposit box, or a cash withdrawal over an ATM limit still needs a person. Those tasks belong in waking hours you actually have, not in the hours you remember from a civilian 9-to-5 you do not work.

On-base access is a second clock. Members who do not work on the installation can be turned away even while the branch is open. Call ahead if you are not assigned there. An off-base branch with a slightly later Friday can be the better night-shift errand. The CO-OP ATM network is for cash when the lobby is dark, not for every desk service.

Open the locator for that branch; do not reuse another site’s close. Treat Sunday as closed unless that page says otherwise. Use the app or ATM overnight; save the lobby for signatures and cash-heavy tasks.

Check federal holidays before you plan a Monday morning visit. A credit union lobby keeps banker hours. Your insomnia does not extend them, and the app does not need a necktie.

When the desk is the wrong tool

Routing numbers, balances, card locks, and many transfers do not require a building. If the task is a conversation, the 24-hour phone line exists so you do not have to wake at 8:55 a.m. after a night shift. If the task is a document that must be seen, you are on lobby time. Bring the papers, arrive before the posted close, and do not treat “almost 5 p.m.” as a negotiation. Staff are closing, not extending your day.

Shared-branch and ATM deposits can post on a delay. The first portion of a deposit may be available sooner than the rest; the receipt states the rule. Overnight does not mean instant for checks. If rent is due at dawn, move the money on a business day while you are still awake, not at 1 a.m. on a holiday eve.
