Melbourne australia clock
A Melbourne Australia clock uses the Australia/Melbourne zone: AEST (UTC+10) in the cool months, AEDT (UTC+11) in the warm months. From 5 April 2026 until 4 October 2026 Melbourne sits on standard time.
How it works
Melbourne, Victoria, keeps Australian Eastern time. Clocks go forward one hour at 02:00 on the first Sunday in October and back one hour at 03:00 on the first Sunday in April. In 2026 daylight time ended Sunday 5 April and starts again Sunday 4 October, when 02:00 AEST becomes 03:00 AEDT. Until that October morning the city is on AEST, UTC+10. After it, AEDT, UTC+11, until the first Sunday in April 2027 (4 April 2027).
The zone is the same offset as Sydney, Canberra, and Hobart. It is not Perth (UTC+8 all year). It is not Brisbane, which stays on AEST, UTC+10, and does not take the October jump. When Melbourne is on AEDT, Brisbane is an hour behind Melbourne even though both are “eastern.” A call booked as “3 pm eastern Australia” is incomplete until you name the city.
Australia PM in a clock query is usually afternoon: after 12:00 in Melbourne’s local civil time. PM Australia in a politics query is the Prime Minister, whose working clock is Canberra’s, which shares Melbourne’s offset. A “pm australia” search that wanted the afternoon still needs the zone. A search that wanted the Prime Minister does not change Melbourne’s UTC offset.
The holiday still uses this clock
Victorian public holidays are dated on Melbourne’s civil calendar. Australia Day is 26 January, which falls in daylight time, so the holiday timetable is AEDT. ANZAC Day is 25 April, which falls after the April fallback, so the holiday timetable is AEST. The holiday name does not carry its own zone. The city’s clock does.
New Year’s midnight in Melbourne is 00:00 on 1 January, AEDT. That midnight is earlier in the Greenwich day than midnight in London or New York. If you are watching a Melbourne New Year from the United States, you are watching it on 31 December local time there. The Melbourne clock is not wrong. Your offset is wide.
Standard: AEST, UTC+10, first Sunday in April to first Sunday in October. Daylight: AEDT, UTC+11, first Sunday in October to first Sunday in April. 2026 switch back to daylight: Sunday 4 October, 02:00 forward to 03:00.
Same offset as Sydney and Canberra; not Perth; not Brisbane in summer. Read whether today’s date is inside October–April daylight or April–October standard. Label the time AEST or AEDT, not only “Melbourne.”
If the other party is in Brisbane, Perth, or Adelaide, do not assume the same offset. If you meant the Prime Minister, use Canberra’s clock, which matches Melbourne’s offset, not a second zone named PM.
Afternoon, morning, and a swapped season
Southern Hemisphere daylight time runs in the southern summer, roughly October to April, which is northern winter. A US or European clock that “springs forward” in March is doing the opposite season. For part of the year the gap between Melbourne and New York widens or shrinks because the two hemispheres do not change clocks on the same weekends. Check both ends of a call in October and in April. The hour you used in August will not be the hour you use in November.
12:00 is noon. 00:00 is midnight. 15:00 is 3 pm on a twelve-hour Melbourne clock. Writing “3 pm AEST” in January is a label error because January Melbourne is on AEDT. The number on the wall can still be 3. The abbreviation is wrong. Meeting invites fail on the abbreviation as often as on the number.
Melbourne will not stay on your winter clock as a courtesy. In October it jumps while much of the north is still arguing about falling back. If you need a live reading, open a clock set to Australia/Melbourne, not a generic “Australia” tile. Australia is not one face. Melbourne is one city with one zone and two seasonal offsets. The holiday calendar in Victoria hangs on that face, not on UTC and not on Canberra’s job title.
Questions and answers
- What time zone is Melbourne, Australia?

- On standard time, yes, both UTC+10. When Melbourne takes daylight time, Brisbane stays on UTC+10 and is one hour behind.

100 seconds
100 seconds equals one minute forty seconds, or 100 s, or PT1M40S. It is a short duration. It is not 1:00, and it is not a hundred on a digital clock.
120 minutes in hour
120 minutes is 2 hours, because one hour holds 60 minutes. Write it as 2:00 or as two hours; it is not 120 hours.
13 hour cast
A 13 hour cast writes thirteen hours as a label in front of the word cast. Most people who type it want the actors in the film 13 Hours. The number is a duration, not a clock time.
