Hrs to minutes converter
An hrs to minutes converter multiplies hours by 60. Hrs is the abbreviation of hours. One hr is 60 minutes. 24 hrs are 1,440 minutes.
how many minutes in 24 hrs
How many minutes in 24 hrs is 1,440. How many minutes are in 24 hrs is the same sentence with a plural verb. Hrs is not a different unit from hours. It is hours with the vowels taken out for a timesheet, a log, or a tight column. 24 hrs × 60 = 1,440 min. That is a 24-hour duration. It is also the minute count of an ordinary civil day that is not on a daylight-saving seam.
Abbreviations on this converter: hr and hrs for hour and hours; min for minutes; sometimes m, which is unsafe because m also means metres. Prefer min. h is the SI symbol for hour. Do not write hrs as a superscript or as a clock stamp. 24 hrs is a length. 24:00 is a stamp some rosters use for midnight at the end of a date. 24 min is twenty-four minutes. The letters after the number are the whole meaning.
A timesheet that prints 8 hrs is 480 minutes of paid or logged time if “hrs” means duration. A roster that prints 0800–1600 hrs in old military style is using “hrs” as a label on clock times: 08:00 to 16:00, which is also eight hours if no break is subtracted. Read the row. If both ends are clock stamps, subtract start from end, then convert the difference. If the cell is a single number with hrs, treat it as duration and multiply by 60.
Decide whether “hrs” on the line is duration or a label on a clock stamp. Duration: minutes = hrs × 60. 24 hrs → 1,440 min. 8 hrs → 480 min. 1.5 hrs → 90 min. Stamp pair: convert each stamp to minutes after midnight, subtract, then you already have minutes. Do not multiply a stamp by 60. 16:00 is not 960 hours.
Other hrs counts the converter should return
1 hr = 60 min. 2 hrs = 120 min. 0.5 hrs = 30 min. 0.25 hrs = 15 min. 7.5 hrs = 450 min. 10 hrs = 600 min. 48 hrs = 2,880 min, which is two 24-hour spans. 168 hrs = 10,080 min, which is seven 24-hour spans if you are counting a week as 7 × 24. Those week and two-day figures are durations. They are not “the week has 10,080 labelled clock minutes on one face.”
Decimal hrs follow tenths of an hour, not tenths of a clock. 0.1 hrs = 6 min. 8.25 hrs = 8 hrs + 0.25 × 60 = 8 hrs 15 min = 495 min. 8.25 as a colon-less lookalike of 8:25 would have been 8 hrs 25 min = 505 min. Timesheets that pay in tenths will show 8.3 hrs for 8 hrs 18 min, because 0.3 × 60 = 18. Timesheets that pay in quarters will snap to 8.25 or 8.5. The converter should tell you which snapping you asked for. If you need exact minutes, type the minutes.
Hrs is hours in a hurry. The minutes still want the full sixty, and they will not accept a colon as a decimal point.
24 hrs on a clock versus 24 hrs on a log
A 24-hour clock writes the day from 00:00 to 23:59. That is a format for stamps. A log line “runtime 24 hrs” is a duration of 1,440 minutes. You can start a 24 hrs runtime at 18:30; it then ends at 18:30 the next date, which is still 1,440 minutes later if no DST fold sits in between. The converter output is 1,440 either way. The end stamp depends on the start stamp. Do not feed 18:30 into an hrs-to-minutes box and expect 1,440.
Questions and answers
- How many minutes are in 24 hrs?

100 seconds
100 seconds equals one minute forty seconds, or 100 s, or PT1M40S. It is a short duration. It is not 1:00, and it is not a hundred on a digital clock.
120 minutes in hour
120 minutes is 2 hours, because one hour holds 60 minutes. Write it as 2:00 or as two hours; it is not 120 hours.
13 hour cast
A 13 hour cast writes thirteen hours as a label in front of the word cast. Most people who type it want the actors in the film 13 Hours. The number is a duration, not a clock time.
