How it works

Fred Meyer is a Kroger-banner superstore: groceries plus clothing, home, and other departments under one roof. It is not a mid-morning department store. A common posted pattern is 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. or 6:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m., seven days. Some buildings open at 7:00 a.m. Some close at 10:00 p.m. even when a nearby store runs until 11:00 p.m. The store page is the schedule. Fuel, pharmacy, and jewelry inside the same property often post shorter days than the grocery floor.

A 6:00 a.m. open is a sleep clock. The building is selling milk while many people are still in the first hour after an alarm. That suits a dawn shopper and a night-shift household coming off a shift. It does not suit a person who still needs the last hour of a night. A 10:00 or 11:00 p.m. close is the other edge: dinner ingredients after a late job, or a theft from the night you meant to keep. Pick the edge you can afford. The store will be open at both; your sleep will not stretch to both on a work day.

Pickup and delivery cut off before the doors in many cases. A floor that is still selling bananas at 10:30 p.m. may have already stopped picking totes. The app time and the door time are two clocks. The pharmacy window is a third. If the errand is a prescription, read the pharmacy line. If the errand is fuel, read the fuel canopy. A membership card or a pickup slot does not extend a department that has already gone dark.

Dawn grocery and a late floor

Early hours suit people who wake with the first alarm and want a quiet aisle. Late hours suit people who cook after work. Families with a child’s bedtime often fit the afternoon better than 8:30 p.m. with a cart. Night-shift workers may find that 6:00 a.m. is their evening. None of those is a moral schedule. The practical rule is to match the trip to the sleep you still need. A 10:40 p.m. shop on a work night steals from the same night; a 6:10 a.m. shop steals from the same morning’s slow start.

Because many Fred Meyer stores use the same span all week, Sunday is not automatically a short day the way a mall is. That is useful if you slept until 9:00 a.m. on Sunday and still need milk. It is a hazard if you assumed Sunday would close at 6:00 p.m. like a department store and you planned the last hour wrong in the other direction. Read the Sunday row anyway. A local store can still post a different Sunday without warning from a national pattern.

Sleep: dawn open and late close are both available; using both in one day is how a night disappears. A store that is awake at 6:00 a.m. will also let you stay too late. The building does not protect your bedtime.

Christmas and other exceptions

Christmas Day is the usual full close for this banner. Plan milk, bread, and prescriptions before December 25. Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve often run shorter than a normal night; the exact close is posted by location and can change year to year. Do not assume an 11:00 p.m. close on December 24. Other holidays, including Thanksgiving, may stay open with a different span. That is a store notice, not a copy of a mall’s dark Thursday. Fuel centers can run when the grocery floor is closed; that is a separate listing, not a promise that the aisles are open.

Holiday sleep is its own problem. A closed Christmas means you cannot fix a missing ingredient at 8:00 p.m. A short Eve means the last hour you thought you had is gone. Put the holiday list on a weekday before the close, in daylight, when you are not already tired from travel. Ordinary Mondays in March are not Christmas. The long 6:00 a.m. board is the rest of the year unless your store says otherwise.
