DSW is Designer Shoe Warehouse. A common posted pattern is 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday through Saturday, with Sunday often opening later and closing earlier — 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. or 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. at many stores. Mall locations can follow the mall. Some stores keep a later evening on Thursday, Friday, or Saturday. None of those figures replaces the hours on that store’s page.

Trying on shoes is not a half-asleep errand. A 10:00 a.m. open assumes you have already gotten up, dressed, and crossed a parking lot. An 8:00 p.m. close sits inside a work-night bedtime for anyone who needs to be up early. If you shop at 7:40 p.m. after a short night, you will try on sizes you will blame on the brand tomorrow. Sleep-wise, this is a daytime and early-evening store, not a dawn store and not a midnight store.

Buy-online, pick-up-in-store has its own cutoff. A pair that is “ready” twenty minutes after close is not ready. Curbside windows, where a store offers them, can be shorter than the sales floor. Read the pickup line if that is the trip you are actually making.

Trying on shoes after a short night

Feet swell through the day. That is a reason some people prefer an afternoon fitting. It is also a reason not to force a 7:50 p.m. decision when you still have to sleep. If you need a quiet floor, go after opening, once you are awake enough to walk a full size run. If you need evening hours because that is when you are free, go early in the evening, not in the last twenty minutes, and do not bring a work-night alarm into the aisle as if the store will hurry for it.

Sunday’s later open collides with people who wanted a slow morning and a first-thing errand. If Sunday is your only free block, confirm the open time before you leave; a 10:00 a.m. weekday open can be 11:00 a.m. on Sunday. The earlier Sunday close collides with people who slept until noon. A 6:00 p.m. Sunday lock is not a Saturday 8:00 p.m. lock. Do not copy weekday hours onto Sunday in your head.

Weekday: many stores around 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.; confirm yours. Sunday: often a later open and an earlier close. Mall stores: the mall can override the last hour. Pickup: the cutoff can land before the floor goes dark. Trying on shoes half-asleep is how you buy a size you will argue with in the morning.

Sunday hours and holiday evenings

Christmas Day is often posted as closed. Christmas Eve is often a short day. Other December evenings can run longer for a stretch of dates, then return to the ordinary board. New Year’s Day may be shortened. Do not import a grocery’s three closed days onto a shoe warehouse. Different chains close different days. The safe move is the store page for the week you are traveling.

Holiday shopping is when sleep gets traded for a line. An extra December hour is useful only if you are already awake. A short Christmas Eve is useful only if you arrive before it, not after a long drive and a nap that ran late. If you are exhausted, order for pickup on a daylight day. The warehouse will still have shoes after you have slept. A fitting done while you can still feel your feet is the point of going in person; a fitting done as the lights dim is how the box comes home wrong.
