How it works

At Home is a home-decor warehouse, not a 6:00 a.m. grocery and not a 10:00 a.m. mall boutique. The company’s own hours note has said that most stores are open Monday through Saturday 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. and Sunday 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., and that you should confirm the locator. Some buildings now post a 9:00 p.m. close every night, or a shorter Sunday. The locator for that store is the schedule. A 10:00 p.m. close in one city is not a promise in the next.

Sleep meets that board in two places. A 9:00 a.m. open is late enough that an ordinary night’s sleep can finish before you leave the house. It is early enough that a slow morning still has to get dressed. A 10:00 p.m. close is later than a department store and later than many children’s bedtimes. Walking a furniture aisle at 9:20 p.m. on a work night is a choice to spend the last good hour of sleep under warehouse lights. The store will still be there after breakfast tomorrow. The hour of sleep will not.

Pickup and delivery use their own clocks. A floor that is open until 10:00 p.m. may have already stopped pulling online orders. Large pieces may need a daytime delivery window that has nothing to do with the evening close. Read the service you are actually using, then set the alarm for that, not for the front door.

A 9 a.m. floor that stays up late

This is a daytime-into-evening store. You can sleep a full night and still arrive at open. You can also wreck a work night by treating 9:45 p.m. as a casual browse. If you have children, the late close is a trap: the building is still selling pillows at an hour when the house should already be dark. If you live alone and keep late hours, the evening window is the one that fits, as long as that location actually posts it. Choose the visit against the rest you still owe yourself, not against the latest number on a national FAQ.

Sunday’s earlier close, where it exists, is the row that wrecks a late plan. A 9:00 p.m. Sunday close is not a 10:00 p.m. Saturday close. Arrive at 9:10 p.m. on Sunday with a cart in your head and you may find the lights already out. Check that store the day you go. A remembered 10:00 p.m. from last winter does not unlock tonight’s door.

Look up that store, not a remembered pair from another city. Note Sunday separately if the close is earlier than Saturday. Treat 9:00 a.m. as “after a night’s sleep,” not as a dawn errand. Treat a 10:00 p.m. close as a late night; do not start a long list at 9:30 p.m. on a work night. The sofa will wait until morning. Your sleep will not wait in the parking lot.

Closed days at the warehouse

At Home has stated that locations are open every day of the year except Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter. That is a full close on those three days, not a short day. Plan the tree stand, the guest towels, and the serving platters before those dates. The day after a close returns to that store’s ordinary hours unless that store posts something else. Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve have often run shorter than a normal night; those hours are a seasonal notice, not the rest of the year. Do not assume a 10:00 p.m. close on December 24.

Holiday weeks are when people shop after a long drive and a short night. The warehouse close will not wait. Move the bulky list to daylight before the close. If you are hosting, the last useful night of sleep before a holiday is worth more than one more walk down an aisle that will be locked the next morning anyway. Ordinary Mondays in January are not Easter. Do not treat every red-letter day as a closed day. The three named closes are the ones the company has put in writing; other holidays follow the store’s current board.
