Cameroon keeps a single time zone, West Africa Time (UTC+1). Yaoundé, the capital, shares that clock with Douala, Garoua and every other town in the country. There is no daylight saving, so the offset holds all year.

One zone from the coast to Lake Chad

Cameroon is often called "Africa in miniature" for its geography — Atlantic beaches, rainforest, savanna, the volcanic slopes of Mount Cameroon. Its timekeeping is the opposite of varied. Whatever the landscape does, the clock stays put at UTC+1.

That makes scheduling inside the country simple. A meeting at 09:00 in Yaoundé is 09:00 in Bamenda, in Maroua, in Kribi. The only thing that shifts as you travel north is when the sun comes up, not what the clock says about it. The country changes climate four times on the drive north. The clock doesn't notice.

Daylight saving: not observed

Cameroon does not move its clocks forward in spring or back in autumn. Near the equator there is little to gain — daylight varies by well under an hour across the year, so shifting the clock would buy almost nothing and cost the usual confusion.

The practical effect for anyone abroad is worth spelling out: The gap between Cameroon and countries that do observe daylight saving changes twice a year — Cameroon stays still, the other side moves. Against UTC, the offset is +1 permanently. No exceptions, no seasonal footnotes.

A recurring call with a European partner will drift by an hour each spring and autumn unless someone resets it.

Regions and how the day runs

Cameroon has ten regions, and they all keep the same official time while running noticeably different daily rhythms. The pattern is mostly about heat and trade rather than about time zones: Centre and the capital. Yaoundé is the seat of government, so its day is shaped by ministries and offices — early starts, a long working morning.

Littoral and Douala. The port and the commercial heart of the country. Business hours here stretch later, and shipping schedules run around the clock. The North, Far North and Adamawa. Hotter and drier, with more work done in the cooler early hours and again toward evening.

The Northwest and Southwest. English-speaking regions, where you will hear times given in the same 24-hour and 12-hour mix used elsewhere in the country. West, East, South. Farming and forestry regions where the working day tends to begin with first light.

Neighbours on the same clock

Cameroon's UTC+1 zone is shared with several of its neighbours, which makes regional coordination unusually painless. Nigeria to the west, Chad to the northeast, the Central African Republic to the east, Gabon, Equatorial Guinea and the Republic of the Congo to the south all keep the same offset. Crossing most of Cameroon's land borders means no watch adjustment at all.

The exception to keep in mind is any partner further east or west — the Gulf states, East Africa, or the Americas — where you will need to do real arithmetic rather than assume the numbers match.
