Time in Botswana — regions, cities and time zones
Botswana uses Central Africa Time, UTC+2, all year and does not observe daylight saving. A single offset covers the entire country, from the Kalahari in the west to the eastern corridor along the border.

Current time in Gaborone
Gaborone sits in the south-east, close to the South African border, and it keeps the national clock. Francistown in the north-east, Maun on the edge of the Okavango Delta, Kasane near the Chobe river, Serowe and Selebi-Phikwe all read the same time.
The country is large — comparable in area to France — but it is arranged in a way that suits one time zone, and no part of it has ever kept a separate clock.
Two hours ahead, every day of the year
Because Botswana never adjusts its clocks, UTC+2 is a permanent fact rather than a seasonal one. Its immediate neighbours line up conveniently: South Africa, to the south and east, uses UTC+2 without daylight saving, so the busiest border crossing involves no clock change.
Zimbabwe and Zambia also keep UTC+2 year-round. Namibia to the west uses UTC+2 as well, which means the long western frontier is likewise clock-neutral. The result is a region where cross-border logistics, flight connections through Johannesburg, and regional conference calls all happen on one hour. It is a marked contrast to Europe, where a comparable area covers several offsets.
Botswana's clock is as flat and steady as the Kalahari: two hours ahead of UTC, every day of the year.
Districts and the shape of the day
Botswana is divided into districts, among them Central, Kgatleng, Kweneng, Southern, South-East, North-East, North-West, Ghanzi, Kgalagadi and Chobe, together with the urban centres administered separately. All of them use the same offset, and none of them applies a local variation.
Daylight follows the southern-hemisphere pattern, which trips up visitors from the north: December brings the long days, June the short ones. In the dry winter months, the sun sets early and the desert nights turn genuinely cold. Safari operators build their schedules around that rather than around the clock: game drives are timed to first and last light, which means departure times printed in a lodge itinerary shift by month even though the time zone does not.
Working with Botswana time
A few points to keep straight: Against the United Kingdom, Botswana is two hours ahead in the British winter and one hour ahead during British summer time — the change comes from the UK side, not from Botswana.
Against Central Europe, the gap is one hour in the European winter and zero in the European summer. The offset makes the Botswana afternoon the natural overlap with the European morning and the Asian evening. In software, use the zone identifier Africa/Gaborone so the fixed rule is explicit.
Questions and answers
