Sanaa’s official hour is three hours ahead of Coordinated Universal Time. Yemen does not split the country into belts, so the capital and other cities share the same civil stamp. Computers usually attach the IANA name Asia/Aden to that offset. The label is a zone-file convention. It does not mean a Sanaa clock should be set to a different harbour.
Yemen does not apply daylight saving. A weekly call at 11:00 in Sanaa remains 11:00 in Sanaa through the year. If the same appointment slides on a European or North American calendar, that calendar jumped. This one did not. Work from the UTC stamp, not from a phrase remembered from another season.
The city stands on a high inland plateau, not on the Red Sea or the Gulf of Aden. Altitude changes the air you feel. It does not mint a municipal time zone. Offices, broadcasts, and transport run on the national hour. Photographers and farmers may still care about the sun. Both can be right at once.
Because the offset is a whole hour, conversion is straightforward until someone else’s daylight-saving date gets in the way. Write “Sanaa (UTC+3)” on mixed invites. Do not rely on an unexplained AST: that abbreviation is used for more than one zone in the world, and it will not travel as cleanly as the city name plus the offset.
Civil time: UTC+3, all year. Computer name: Asia/Aden, the usual IANA file for Yemen. Seasonal clock change: Yemen does not apply one. Sun and weather: use Sanaa’s coordinates, not a coastal pin and not a generic “Yemen” point.
A journey down toward the coast changes climate and sunrise minutes. It does not change the legal hour. If two devices disagree, one of them is on a foreign zone or still has a seasonal toggle that Yemen does not need. High ground changes the air. It does not print a private time zone for the capital.
Sunrise and sunset on this page are calculated for Sanaa’s location and the date. The plateau is dry for much of the year, so the sky can look sharp, but haze, dust, or cloud can still hide the disk. The printed rise uses a flat-horizon model. Surrounding high ground can delay the first gleam from a particular street without moving that minute.
Day length still changes through the year because Sanaa is not on the equator. Cooler months cut the afternoon short; warmer months stretch the evening. That is the sun, not a statute, and it is not a reason to recode a timezone field. The weather block is the present sky over the plateau capital. It is not a climate classification you can treat as this afternoon, and it is not a forecast with a guarantee attached.
If you need twilight for walking or photography, use a dawn or dusk figure for these coordinates. The official sunrise remains the geometric event. Looking at the sky tells you whether you can see it. Those are different jobs, and the clock is only responsible for one of them.
