What time is it in Yantai

Yantai keeps China Standard Time, UTC+8. The north Shandong shore uses the same civil hour as Jinan. Clocks do not move for summer. This page applies that offset, usually stored as Asia/Shanghai. If your phone already shows China Standard Time, it already matches Yantai. If it shows a zone that still jumps in March, the gap will move on your side. Yantai’s wall will not.

Yantai is a prefecture-level port on the northern and central Shandong Peninsula, facing the Bohai Sea, with a long coastline. Qingdao sits on the south-facing Yellow Sea shore of the same peninsula. Weihai holds the eastern tip. The three cities share one legal hour and three different stretches of water.

Bohai hour, national hour

Yantai’s longitude is close to the 120° east meridian, so the national clock and the local sun stay near each other. The interesting split is not east versus west. It is north shore versus south shore, and sea versus inland. Zhifu District and a village on the Bohai Strait still print UTC+8. So does a warehouse in Jinan. The ferry toward Dalian crosses to Liaoning and lands on the same civil hour. You do not change your watch with the ticket. You may change your coat.

Civil time: UTC+8, China Standard Time. Across the Bohai Strait: Dalian, same hour. Across the peninsula: Qingdao, same hour, different fog and different horizon. Inland: Jinan, same hour, less marine delay in the seasons.

From Tokyo, Yantai is one hour behind. From Seoul, the same. From Los Angeles, count from Pacific Standard or Pacific Daylight, then add the eight hours to UTC. Do not search “China time difference” and hope the first number fits a winter Monday.

The ferry to Dalian is a crossing, not a time-zone crossing. Change the jacket, not the watch.

North-shore daylight

Yantai sits a little further north than Qingdao, still in the mid-thirties of latitude. Daylight stretches in June and contracts in December. The sun’s path is over the Bohai and the peninsula, not over Jiaozhou Bay. Take the sunrise and sunset printed here. A Qingdao pair is the wrong coast. A Dalian pair is the wrong peninsula, even though the strait is narrow on a map and the clocks agree.

Winter light can come with sea-effect snow when cold air moves over the Bohai — a north-shore habit, not a south-shore copy. Summer light can be long and humid under the monsoon. The clock treats January and July as the same arithmetic. The sky does not.

Sea weather that is not Qingdao’s twin

Yantai has a temperate monsoon climate: cold, dry winters and warm, wet summers, with rain concentrated in the monsoon months. The sea takes the edge off inland extremes. Late autumn and winter can bring sea-effect precipitation along the southern Bohai shore. Yellow Sea advection fog, by contrast, is much more a Qingdao problem than a Yantai one. Two ports, one peninsula, one legal hour, two fog diaries.

Typhoon remnants can still arrive from the Pacific. A clear, windy winter day can feel colder than the inland forecast suggested. Read the conditions on this page. Copying a Qingdao packing list will prepare you for fog you may not get and skip the north-shore wind you might.

Questions and answers

What time zone is Yantai in?
China Standard Time, UTC+8. The Bohai port does not keep a separate offset.
Do I change my watch on the Dalian ferry?
No. Both ends use UTC+8. The trip is a sea crossing, not a zone crossing.
Is Yantai on the same time as Qingdao?
Yes. The civil hour matches. Sunrise, fog, and winter snow habits do not.
